Takasago near Kobe, Japan is blessed with the wonders of nature -- fresh water, the ocean, and lush forested hills. As a boy I built and launched wooden boats staring at the distant horizon until they vanished to a world I was anxious to see. Takasago still retained its fishing village origins. People worked with their hands carrying on a tradition of careful craftsmanship. Anxious to see the world, I eventually followed my toy boats eastward over the horizon to Hawaii and California.
My name is Kenji Hasegawa -- a craftsman steeped in tradition of wabisabi - a way at looking at objects through the eyes of nature with its quirks and imperfections. My path included 10 years associated with Japonesque, a San Francisco Gallery that specialized in fine Japanese traditional and contemporary art, furniture, and objects using and adapting Japanese designs for the changing world. I began to show my one-of-a kind handcrafted pieces at fine art galleries in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am a California licensed general contractor and I can provide a complete environment from buildings to furniture to artwork -- personally executed with the craftsmanship of my own hands. Please take a look at my portfolio. I look forward to discussing your special project. Kenji Hasegawa 長谷川兼司 415 269-1230 [email protected] |
